Ledger and your business

What Ledger does, and creating your business: where it is, its financial year, and the Overview it opens on.

  1. Hello, I'm Leo. Ledger keeps your books as you go: each invoice, bill, payment and expense goes in once, and your profit, what customers owe you, what you owe suppliers and the value of your stock add themselves up. No calculator at the end of the month.
  2. Create your business

It starts with Create your business. Where's your business? sets up the rest: Pakistan gives you rupees, Karachi time, sales tax at 18%, zero-rated and exempt, and room for your NTN and STRN; the United Kingdom gives pounds, London time and VAT; Somewhere else asks for your currency and time zone. Your chart of accounts, tax rates and cash and bank accounts arrive ready for that market, and you pick the languages your invoices go out in.
  3. When does your financial year start?

Then your financial year: the usual start for where you are is picked for you. In Pakistan it's July to June, FBR's tax year; in the UK, April to March. Profit and loss, the balance sheet and the year-to-date reports count from its first day, and there's nothing to close at the end of it: last year's profit simply moves into earlier years' profit by itself.
  4. Overview

Ledger opens on the Overview: a Getting started list while you set up, the quick actions (New invoice, Record a bill, Add an expense, Record a payment), What needs doing (overdue invoices, supplier bills due this week, bank lines to match), and How it's going: your income and costs, your profit, what customers owe you and what you owe suppliers, and each cash and bank balance. It's at app.ledger.vereon.tech, on a laptop or a phone, and everyone on your team signs in as themselves.
