Lesson 3 of 5 · 2 min

Bills bring stock in, invoices take it out

Stock only moves with a document, and Stock history shows every move with the one that made it.

  1. Your stock only moves with a document: a bill brings it in at its cost, an issued invoice takes it out at the average, and a stock adjustment covers the rest. A draft moves nothing.
  2. Items → Stock history

Items, then Stock history: every change, When, by how much, Why, what was Left and the Document behind it. Open the document from there.
  3. Edit an issued invoice from 10 bags to 12 and only the difference moves: 2 more go out. Void it and all of it comes back, at exactly what it went out at. A bill works the same way round.
  4. Selling through Register at the counter or Offr online? Once connected, that app keeps its own shelf, and Ledger never writes back to it. Register says what each sale cost, so Ledger values the stock and the cost of what's sold from it; Offr keeps no costs, so its sales leave your stock's value alone.
